Sports Basement Multi Levels Ride (Jeff, Helen, Lorraine, Margie and Earl)
All Rides start and end at Sports Basement in Novato. There is plenty of parking at the store or, if you live close enough, ride your bike to the start. Meet at 8:45 am for 9 am roll out.
After the ride, schmooze in the Sports Basement community room with free (non-alcoholic) drinks and snacks. Shop for all those bike and non-bike related necessities and extravagances with a special Sports Basement COUPON.
A RIDE 35 MILES, 1800 feet vertical (10 - 12 mph average pace): Lead by our very own, friend of Greg Lemond, Jeff Sanchez, who will lead you west on Novato Blvd to Stafford Lake Park, for a water and restroom break. Then turn left on Pt. Reyes Petaluma Road to climb up the backside of the Col de Fromage. Whizz downhill and turn left on Nicascio Valley Road. There will be another restroom break in Nicasio. Then head out and up and over Big Rock via Lucas Valley Road. Enjoy the views and the great twisty downhill. Jeff will then bring you back to Sports Basement via Bicycle Route 5 north near 101.
AB Ride 59 MILES, 3500 vertical feet. (12 - 13.9 mph average pace) Lead by the dynamic duo of Helen and Lorraine. They will lead you out Novato Blvd, pass Stafford Lake Park (nature break anyone?), then up and over Wilson Hill to the gorgeous farmland of Chileno Valley Road. Add a little zig zag by the rifle range, because who doesn't like a little gun noise on a Saturday morning? They will then take you on the new smooth pavement of Spring Hill road. The return route is D street/Red Hill road to Novato Blvd. End the ride through horse country, Indian Valley, then make your way back to Sports Basement.
B route 67 miles, 4100 vertical feet, 14 - 15 mph average pace. Margie will lead you on the long ride but at a social pace. She will try to keep everyone together. This route will head west on Novato Blvd to Hicks, then up and over Marshall Wall. The ride will then head north up Highway 1 to Tomales for some refueling. Return via Bodega Avenue to D Street.
C route 67 miles, 4100 vertical feet, 16 - 18 mph average pace. This route is the same as the B route. It will also go west on Novato Blvd, then make a counterclockwise loop over Marshall wall, north to Tomales, back via Bodega Hwy and D street then return via Novato Blvd. This will be a fast paced ride, with former racer, Earl as the leader. You are responsible for knowing the route and being self sufficient. If you can't keep up, then you can wait for the B group and ride with them.
