New Year's Day Ride Mount Diablo 2 options 38mi/ 29mi All Levels (Melissa) -- CANCELED


Happy New Year!!  Don't you just want to bounce out of bed on New Year's Day?  Join Melissa Jacobson and the MC crew for an outing to scale Mount Diablo.  All levels ride.  2 options to choose from:  Medium 29 miles/ +2,550' or  Large 38 miles/ +4,237' to the summit.  We will start in Walnut Creek Heather Farm Park  Field 3, closer to the north end of the park.  There are baseball fields in front.   Please see map for the meet location.  Meet: 9:45 AM/ wheels roll: 10:00 AM.  Let's try to stay together as there are a few hidden bikeways and access corridors that are not easily seen from the road or on a map until we get to the South Gate Mt. Diablo Park Entrance at mile 12.4.

Must register to ride, members and non-members.

***Please review the RWGPS route links below carefully.  Please pay attention to mile 9.9; sharp left turn from Green Valley Road to DIABLO ROAD TRAIL (not Diablo Road) and mile 11.8 crossover from Alameda Diablo to Mt. Diablo Scenic Road is a right turn to an unmarked footpath and then through a GAP IN THE WALL onto Mt. Diablo Scenic Road.   

Please upload the route(s) to your bike computer or phone, or print out a turn by turn cue sheet for yourself.  We may ride at different speeds and some of us may choose to go to the top or not.

 Medium 29 mi/ +2,557' Climb to the Junction Ranger Station at 2,155' elevation and take the left at mile 17.9 to North Gate Road to descend.

Large 38 mi/ +4,237' With the works! After the Junction Ranger station, hang a right and continue for another 9 miles on Summit Road; and then back track the same way you came up on Summit road.  At mile 26.9, continue straight where Summit Road becomes North Gate Road.

Bring warm layers with you, a jacket, puffy, warm gloves.  It's cold as you get higher up and the descent is even chillier.
