About this event
Ride with Margie Baer for a "by the book" gentler loop to the Headlands. We will go via Fort Baker and climb up to GGB west side parking lot. Then we'll descend Alexander part way and take a left on Bunker Rd, through the tunnel and voila! We'll do a 332 ft gradual climb up to Battery Townsley for a photo op and then Rodeo Beach for a bathroom stop and we head back to the start with a little jaunt on Gate 5 Rd harbor side! We will ride directly to the Depot Cafe & Bookstore in Mill Valley Downtown or you can proceed straight to return to the bike turnabout start. After lunch it's a short and flat 1.8 miles back to the start.
The post ride stop will be The Depot Cafe & Bookstore at 87 Throckmorton Avenue housed in a Mission Revival style train station built in 1929. The depot was formerly a terminal spur of the North Pacific Coast Railroad where it stood in the exact spot in 1889 as a wood framed station that was later torn down. By 1940 the railway service ceased operation; the present building that remains today morphed into a Greyhound bus station until the 1970s. A cafe and bookstore operated for 40 years on the repurposed city owned property. After an extensive renovation was completed in 2021 the Depot Cafe and Bookstore opened for business. Not a beginner's ride; Social AB Pace 12.5 -13.5 mph
Day time running rear lights are highly recommended
