Nov 16-5th Annual Richmond San Rafael Bridge Ride: 23 mi flat or 48 mi flat (Joe M, Mark S)

About this event

On November 16th, the Marin Cyclists, Marin County Bicycle Coalition, Rich City, and Bike East Bay are all celebrating the 5th anniversary of the opening of the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge pedestrian/bike way. Come join us on this day of cycling advocacy to keep the path open for bikes and pedestrians!

We will meet at 9:15 am at the Larkspur Ferry parking lot (the side close to Sir Francis Drake Blvd) and roll out at 9:30am to meet up with Rich City and Bike East Bay by 10:30a at the Richmond BART station. There’ll be a whole bunch of cycling groups and community partners meeting there, with some talks (from a megaphone) on the progress over the years. It’s a scene to attend and witness!

From there, we will divide into 2 groups.

One group will ride a very short leisurely/no drop/party pace loop from the Richmond BART station led by Rich City Rides along with Joe Mulligan from Marin Cyclists. This group will then head west across the RSR Bridge. When we reach the San Rafael side at the RSR Bridge scenic view, we’ll make our way back to the Larkspur Ferry lot. Those who didn’t start with the Marin Cyclists will make their return trip to Richmond via the bridge.

Total miles 23.1, elevation gain 566 feet, no drop ride. Short 23mi Route

The second group will ride south to Oakland, take the ferry from Jack London Square to San Francisco,  grab a snack at the SF Ferry Building, then ride along the Marina, cross the Golden Gate Bridge and aim north back to Larkspur. Total miles 48 miles, elevation gain 1261 feet, 14-16 mph overall average moving speed on this relatively flat course.  Long 48mi Route
