Plenty of Positions and Perks for Marin Century Volunteers

Published on 7/12/2017

Our annual Marin Century is one of the longest-running cycling events in the United States and certainly one of the largest with 2,000-plus participants. Entirely staged and supported by volunteers, the Marin Century raises thousands of dollars for local charities and athletic clubs, including local high school cycling teams. If you are looking for community service hours or new friends or you just want to support worthy local causes, sign up for one of our 4-hour, group-activity shifts, August 2-5, here.

Available positions include signage and course markings, security, food service, U-Haul truck drivers, SAG drivers, site setup, site cleanup, recycling, volunteer check in, bike parking, and safety turn directors.

Volunteers get a tee shirt, snacks and/or lunch, and invitations to a free workers’ ride (both the 100-mile and the 200-mile course) and our end-of-year holiday party. Sweet!

Must I have fun while volunteering?

YES! We need hundreds of volunteers so keeping them happy is our goal. We encourage you to make the most of the opportunity to spread good cheer and receive it.

How many volunteers return year after year?

Good question. We can’t give you a precise number but some two-thirds of our volunteers have been with us for multiple years. We think that says something both about our volunteers and our event.

Will I be able to wear my comfy clothes?

Absolutely—feel free to wear your Grateful Dead t-shirt or last year’s Halloween costume. Just please wear closed-toe shoes. And bring your hat and sunglasses.

Are the riders (a) too cool for school or (b) really grateful for the volunteers’ efforts?

B. Definitely.

When is the FREE workers’ ride?

That will be August 12, and it will be a supported ride—rest stops, SAG drivers, and food afterward.
